GVWP Workshop: Fast & Easy Methods for Creating Class Books (Grades K-12)
In this 15-hour, one-unit course, experienced classroom teachers from grades K-12 will share EASY, INEXPENSIVE methods to create and publish class-authored books with students. Presenters will offer classroom-tested lessons and activities to support students through the writing process. They will provide "old-school" methods for hand-binding books + step-by-step guidance through simple programs for publishing digital e-books. Demonstrations will feature sample books, instructional guides, and tips for organization. All sessions will include time for hands-on practice.
COURSE SCHEDULE & LOCATIONS:
Flexible dates! On the first day of class, each participant will choose dates to complete fieldwork requirements.
Part 1: Hands-On Sessions in Book-Making & Digital Publishing
Three sessions: Monday, June 30 - Wednesday, July 2 from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm (These dates are required!)
Location: SJCOE Wentworth Center • 2707 Transworld Drive, Stockton • Just off of Hwy 99 at Arch-Airport Rd.
Fieldwork dates will be selected on July 1st, so please bring your summer calendar to the sessions!
Part 2: Fieldwork in Creating & Publishing Classroom Books
Location: GVWP Workshop at River Islands Technology Academy • click for map
Fieldwork dates are flexible! Teachers may design plans to fit their own curriculum-planning goals:
• Observe teachers in K-12 computer labs or classrooms from 10:00-11:30.
• Work on projects with workshop publication managers from 11:30-12:30.*
Fieldwork may be completed in just two sessions (10:00-12:30) or divided into five 1-hour sessions (11:30-12:30)
* Teachers who attend the GVWP Demo Lab at River Islands may complete their fieldwork by attending eight sessions from 12:20-12:55 pm. (Teachers simply walk from their Demo Lab classroom to the publishing room!)

Registration Fee: A $50 deposit will be collected at the opening session, but teachers throughout San Joaquin & Stanislaus counties will receive a full registration refund if they complete the course!

Materials Fee: A $35 materials fee will be collected at the opening session. (This fee is non-refundable.)
One unit of credit is available for purchase from CSU Stanislaus.
